About Hastings Electric

Storefront

Hastings Electric was founded in 1919 by Robert Hastings to sell Delco Light Plants, used to power electricity to rural homes and farms.

Meanwhile General Motors, owner of Delco bought out the Guardian Frigerator Company and called it Frigidaire Corporation and started mass producing the first refrigerators. With electricity available for homes, Hastings Electric began selling Frigidaire refrigerators in 1926 adding other appliances as they were invented.

Hastings Electric is the 5th oldest Frigidaire dealer in the world!

When Robert Hastings decided to retire, the business was bought by his secretary, Lena Cottrill who had started in 1928 and spent 61 years with the company until 1989 when she retired.

Robert Kenworthy, a businessman and Frigidaire servicer from Circleville joined Mrs Cottrill in 1977 after the death of her husband and brother.

Meanwhile Carol Longstreth had worked at Sears with Warner Timmons, the appliance department manager. In 1982 Timmons opened Timmons Appliance & TV at Bridge and Main St and Longstreth went to work for him. When Timmons moved to Cincinnati in 1984, Longstreth bought the business that sold General Electric, White Westinghouse and Maytag appliances.

In 1990 looking toward retirement himself but wanting to make sure the longstanding business continued, Mr Kenworthy through a mutual Frigidaire/White Westinghouse sales rep instigated a merger between Hastings Electric with Timmons Appliance and TV becoming Hastings Electric Inc. operating exclusively out of the 96-98 W. Second St. location.

Carol Longstreth is the current President of the corporation and runs the everyday operation of the business. Pam Chaney, who started at Timmons Appliance in 1984, runs the parts and service dept and Anita Ragland, Carol’s daughter is the Visual Assistant.

Hastings Electric.Inc.has expanded their line of products…along with Frigidaire, GE and Samsung, they also carry Speed Queen home laundry products and Oreck cleaning products.

Hastings Electric is a member of Nationwide Buying Group, the nations largest appliance buying group, enabling them to buy products at the right price to be competitive with the big box stores. Hastings Electric displays over 100 appliances on their sales floor offering a wide selection for their customers.
